Gorgon I & II is a great shallow dive for all divers. The main feature is two big Gorgonian fans.
As it is very close to the shore, the shallow part can also be very enjoyable for the snorkelers with its many fire corals and school of angel fish. Gorgon II got the name because of Gorgonia fan-coral sitting at a 21 meters depth.
Gorgon II as a dive site in Aqaba rated excellent for diving and snorkeling. Dive site also named by two Gorgonian fan corals, which is 20 meters and 29 meters depth. Site locate south of the Gorgonia One. Just left site of the parking area in the Marine Park. This dive site has varieties of pinnacles and reefs with a different shapes and depth. Very interesting pinnacles are in the shallow water. Fire corals at the beginning of the dive, table corals, cabbage and stony or raspberry corals.
Green turtles graze on the seagrass meadow that surrounds the shallows of Gorgon II, but you’re not here for them. After a 5-minute swim over diverse and shallow coral similar to Gorgon I you come to a sandy-bottomed valley. Before you meet the Gorgones, you’ll pass a group of shallow pinnacles – another dive site known as the Seven Sisters and move among moray eels, lionfish and coral groupers as you continue the descent along the bottom.
And there they are: The first of 2 massive gorgonian corals waves softly on the tide at 20m. Further out you’ll pass the second, a little deeper at 30m (this one’s bowed nearly in half; waving a permanent greeting to divers).
If you continue further out you’ll end up in New Canyon – a dive of its own into a deep-walled canyon leading to a sudden dropoff to blue at 40m.
Two mooring lines are based on this dive site at 12 meters and make it very easy to enter. Once you start you will face a big coral reef with lots of stony corals. With its shallow depth, Gorgon is suitable for both beginner and advanced divers. But it is mostly well-known for its big gorgonian corals and the two pinnacles extending from sea surface to the bottom. Many soft and stony hard corals surround them and create a perfect habitat for a lot of beautiful invertebrates and fish.
