Maximum depth of the site is 18 meters and is excellent for newly certified divers. It has an entry access from shore of 3 meters wide and 4 meters deep. After passing through this wonderful passage (various uncommon shy creatures hiding in caves all the way along) the diver will meet a vast cabbage coral. Other two large Gorgonia corals are there, thus name Gorgone was given.
You’re probably going to see the titular Gorgon I on this shallow dive between 3 pinnacles. It’s hard to miss – but you’ll spend plenty of time in the shallows, too. The entire area is carpeted with lush, densely-inhabited corals in clear water at shallow depths, making this a hugely popular dive site for divers, snorkelers, and underwater photographers.
The dive site Gorgon 1 in Aqaba have rate as one of the best for diving and snorkeling. This site is an excellent shallow dive in an area covered in coral. There are 3 pinnacles, each with its own ecosystem. The central pinnacle boasting a busy cleaning station. Hawksbill turtles frequent the area. Around the northern pinnacle are a shoal of big eye emperors and a large shoal of sergeant major fish. The mooring is to the south in a sandy patch at 15 meters.
This dive provides examples of a fantastic array of the different varieties of the coral of the Red Sea. The site has two large pinnacles extending from the bottom to the sea surface. They inhabit by unique soft and hard corals forming a safe and wealthy home for many kinds of beautiful invertebrates and fish. The boulder, fan and table corals complete the coral packed tour!
Cruise amongst the turtles as you swim from pinnacle to pinnacle, each boasting a unique variety of wildlife and stretching from 10 m right up to the surface. Following the sloping coral downward with emperorfish, glassfish, grouper, lionfish and other colourful company, you’ll pass a third pinnacle and turn left, where the reef begins to flatten out – except for a cabbage coral the size of a house, home to numerous species of reef fish large and small. You’ll find the Gorgone easily: she’s huge and waves imposingly over the active reef below. You’ll see stonefish and lionfish lying in wait, and a nearby table coral is home to a large yellowmouth moray.
